How To Make a Delicious and Quick Pitta Bread Pizza
Pizza anyone?
Ok hear me out, a pitta bread pizza might seem like a strange idea but it is actually amazing. Also, it is a quick, cheap and simple way to have the great taste of a pizza. And all this without needing to shell out on a takeaway or buy a big pizza in the shops.
Why use pitta bread
Pitta bread is super cheap at supermarkets. With a pack usually costing less than £1 this meal is a bargain. And with everyone trying to save money right now this is an affordable way to have a ‘pizza’.
I really like using pitta bread as it has a great flavour and is a great substitute for a pizza base.
In addition, the size is perfect if you want a small meal or even a quick snack. Also, this makes a great lunch or super quick dinner (for those nights you don’t want to cook).
How to make pitta bread pizza
You will need:
- Pitta bread – I like to use the white bread version for these to mimic a pizza base
- Passata sauce – this makes a great pizza sauce
- Vegan cheese
- Toppings – any including red onion, mushrooms, peppers etc
How to make these pizzas:
You probably know I like a quick and simple recipe (I will add measurements in one day) but this is the ultimate in quick and simple:
- Firstly, heat up your sauce – I like to add some mixed herbs for flavour
- Secondly, add the sauce to the top of the pitta bread to make your base
- Add your vegan cheese – any will do but a cheddar or mozzarella alternative will work best
- Add your toppings – I kept this simple with my favourite mushrooms and red onion
- Place on the grill to allow the cheese to melt and the toppings to warm
If you prefer your veg cooked a little longer you can roast the vegetables first and add them on last, this works well if you want to roast some peppers but I like raw veg so I didn’t want it too cooked on these.
Verdict of the pizzas
I really love these pizzas as they make an amazing snack or quick meal. Sometimes you don’t want to buy a family-sized pizza for one (although no judgement if you do). And a takeaway isn’t always in the budget but you’d still like something tasty.
This ticks all the boxes for me – it’s quick, easy to make and affordable. And of course vegan as always!
